Numerical Simulation of a Simplified Stratification Model of Suspended Sediment Concentration in an Open-Channel Turbulent Flow
摘要
This study predicts the dynamics of suspended sediment particles in open channels by considering a two-dimensional unsteady sediment transport model with turbulence-suppressing density stratification. The governing equation is a partial differential equation, which has been solved using OpenFoam, an open-source finite volume framework. The calculated FVM-based OpenFoam solution was compared with the FDM-based solution for validation and found to be in good agreement. It has been observed that the suspended concentration profiles are significantly affected by density stratification and should be accounted for in any theory of suspended sediment transport problem. Different contour and 3D plots have been depicted and physically illustrated for a better understanding of the sediment transport process.
