This personalized chapter provides personal and professional health and wellbeing encounters by both this book’s authors. The first author, who grew up in Sri Lanka and then worked with crisis-affected communities in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (West Asia), had comparative experiences with both Western biomedicine and traditional medical systems, especially in South Asia. The second author grew up and worked in India, and his encounters with different medical systems did not provide him with comparative experiences. We are pointing out that with the increased globalization and liberalization, traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, and Deshiya Chikitsa are becoming commercialized. In this process, nature and natural processes become less critical, and people may not receive the same benefits as the original form of herbs. It is essential to learn from ancient philosophies and systems by creating a battle of ideas so that we may be able to incorporate their valuable elements to deal with contemporary issues.
