This study explores the concept of ‘weak signals’ from a cultural perspective, aiming to clarify its relationship with trends and contribute to the discussion on trendspotting. The research employs bibliometric analysis to research the use and understanding of weak signals as indicators of emerging trends. Findings suggest that ‘weak signals’ play a crucial and speculative role in anticipating long-term cultural transformations, whereas ‘cool signals’ serve as more immediate indicators of ongoing cultural changes. The bibliographic analysis highlights key authors and publications in the field, reflecting the growing importance of these topics, and revealing thematic clusters linking weak signals to emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, strategic management, and innovation, underscoring their relevance to current technological agendas. The study contributes to both Future Studies and Trend Studies by enhancing the understanding of trend signals and their role in shaping cultural and strategic decisions in the present and the long term.
