This study investigated the perception of artificial intelligence (AI) among the Portuguese population by focusing on its positive and negative aspects and impacts on society. An online survey was conducted using Google Forms, and the “General Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence Scale” (GAAIS) was employed to assess participants’ attitudes toward AI. The convenience sample comprised 75 valid responses. The results showed that a factorial analysis revealed two components: Positive and negative aspects of AI. Female participants slightly disagreed that there were positive aspects regarding AI, while males slightly agreed. Both females and males slightly agreed that there were negative aspects associated with AI. There were differences between females and males regarding the positive aspects of AI, but no significant differences were found for the negative aspects. This study highlights the importance of understanding the public perception of AI and its potential impacts on society, which can inform the development and implementation of AI technologies in various sectors.
