Ecological Restorations of Wetlands by Geomicrobes
摘要
Wetlands are ecosystems of incredible biodiversity renowned for purifying water and sequestering carbon. But humanity’s more recent activities and a changing climate have endangered them. As a result, it is necessary to reform the traditional restoration methods, mainly based on physical and chemical treatment, to restore the wetland ecological system more comprehensively. Here, we describe the ability of geomicrobes, which are essential for many geological and chemical processes, to contribute to environmental recovery in a wetland system. Geomicrobes provide an environmentally friendly ecosystem service to restore wetlands by improving nutrient cycling, promoting plant growth, and stabilising sediments. It emphasises research on the roles of geomicrobes in wetlands, outlines their ecological functions, and proposes a strategy for incorporating microbial-based restoration technologies into wetland restoration works.
