There are many methods for surface modification of polypropylene film, including plasma technology, chemical vapor deposition method, surface molecular structure modification and so on. The low temperature plasma technology based on the principle of dielectric barrier corona discharge is used to modify the surface of polypropylene film, and the AC breakdown voltage is increased by about 12%. On the other hand, the surface morphology of polypropylene film becomes rough. If the electrode is metallized and evaporated, burrs may be generated between the dielectric and the metallized electrode, which will lead to the concentration of electric field and reduce the overall breakdown field strength.
