This chapter goes through the research background and raises the two core research questions: (1) what parameter is responsible for the Chinese counterexamples of agent omission to the generalization of UEAC and (2) what rule is the Chinese agent omission subject to. It then briefly introduces the two hypotheses of the work that answers the two questions respectively, and overviews the types of cases that will be later accounted for to give readers an idea of how the core hypothesis captures the phenomenon of agent omission comprehensively.
