Global Market Entry Regulation of Nurti-Ayur Products
摘要
In today’s contemporary era where food is perceived through western approach, the trust in the millennia old experience that a diet geared to individual doshas is re-establishing its roots not only through the cultural beliefs but also through scientific reasonings too. In recent years Ayurvedic concepts like prakriti, dosa, and agni have been the subject of intense research efforts employing cutting-edge scientific methods. These cross-disciplinary initiatives have undoubtedly contributed to the correlation of some Ayurvedic concepts with existing biological and nutritional concepts. As the research is growing in the field of ayurveda, modern thinking is creeping into alternative medicine and food products which is now leading to the development of food products which are based on both nutritional and ayurvedic aspect termed as Nutri ayur products. Since such products with both nutritional and ayurvedic components in the form of food products may come under the category of Functional foods, so their market entry regulations are also of great concern. Therefore, concerns regarding doubts and claims of these products need to be addressed. Market entry requirements for nutraceuticals, functional foods, and ayurveda inspired nutritional food products vary from country to country and depend on the overall regulatory framework employed within a given country. The market entry requirements tend to fall under one of three categories: registration, notification, or no entry requirements which have their own benefits and drawbacks. Among these notification-based approach provides the proper balance between allowing consumer access and choice and protecting public health. To assess and authorize novel ingredients, an important factor in supporting industry innovation and consumer access to cutting-edge technology, most established markets have implemented regulatory frameworks. Global convergence toward market entry and novel ingredient regulations that reduce barriers and improve access without sacrificing consumer safety will ultimately lead to an open and vibrant marketplace with highly satisfied customers. In India the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations, 2022, came into force in May 2022, which specified Food Business Operators to formulate Ayurveda Aahara in accordance with the categories and requirements specified in the regulation and the same must be followed for registration and selling of such products. These Ayurveda Aahar are based on the concepts of Ayurvedic and nutritional components which is the base of the Nutri ayur product also. Thus this chapter would emphasize on the global market scenario of ayurveda inspired food products to its national and global market entry strategies and concerns to the global market entry regulations which aim to strike an appropriate balance between consumer access and risk (microbes/heavy metal contaminants).
