A certain batch of non quenched and tempered N80 steel grade multiple cracking and failure events occurred during the repair and remanufacturing water pressure test of Φ73.02 * 5.51 mm oil pipe. Visual inspection, non-destructive testing, chemical composition analysis, mechanical properties, and metallographic analysis were conducted on one of the failed oil pipes. The results showed that the pressure test cracking of this oil pipe was brittle fracture. Due to the coarse grain size and presence of Weinstein in the pipe body, the impact toughness and plasticity of the steel were significantly reduced, making it prone to brittle fracture. At the same time, during the experiment, there was stress concentration at the clamping end, which significantly reduced its pressure bearing capacity, and brittle cracking occurred during the local pressure rise process. Finally, this article provides reasonable suggestions for preventing N80 oil pipe cracking during the heat treatment process.
