Buildings are crucial for the continuum of everyday business as usual. An average human spends 90% of his life indoors, which shows the extent of dependency humans have on buildings. Despite being a vital aspect of human lives, these assets are prone to deferred maintenance and severe deterioration. Negligence, lack of relevant information, and reluctance towards regular inspections and surveys lead to devastating accidents that claim numerous lives. Building designers and builders hardly ever share responsibility towards the occupants during the operation phase of a building concerning the latent defects. Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is seemingly a straightforward approach that assesses a building based on occupant perception and building performance indicators. However, the ambiguity in the definition of comfort often leads to enigmatic situations. This paper attempts to address the perplexity of the POE concept by developing a Post Occupancy Index (POI) for high-rise residential buildings. The study proposes an integrated approach consisting of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Integrals to estimate the weights for factors influencing POI and the relative importance of subfactors of those components, respectively. The overall POI is then obtained using the Weighted-Sum Method (WSM). The findings of this study can be used to understand, measure, and compare different residential building designs through various subfactors to achieve higher occupant satisfaction and enhanced technical performance for future high-rise dwellings.
