Development and Application of Intelligent Polymer Tracer Loading Tool

During the monitoring process of conventional horizontal well staged fracturing, the use of liquid tracer has problems such as short monitoring cycles, large diffusion effects, and affecting test accuracy. However, intelligent polymer tracer is a type of solid tracer with slow-release properties that can meet the needs of long-term monitoring (monitoring cycles greater than 1 year) in horizontal wells. However, there is currently no supporting downhole tools in China that can be used with intelligent polymer tracers. This article designs an intelligent polymer tracer loading tool consisting of anchor cards, shields, and connecting subs, which can be used with a production tubing string. The shield is installed on the outer surface of the tubing on the completion string, and the loading tool secures the intelligent polymer tracers between the outer diameter of the tubing and the annulus of the shield, allowing the intelligent polymer tracers to slowly release after contacting the target fluid in the formation, thus achieving long-term monitoring. This article introduces the technology of intelligent polymer tracers, the design and manufacturing of loading tools, and combines with the first application case in China to explain the installation process and process flow of the loading tool for productivity profile monitoring. Field applications have shown that the loading tool has good stability and can meet the monitoring needs of intelligent polymer tracers, filling a gap in this technology in China.
