The rapid development of The Internet of Things technologies [6] has revealed opportunities to enhance the efficiency and eco-friendliness of retail operations, particularly in supermarkets. Traditional weighing and checkout systems often involve inefficiencies, resource wastage, and environmental pollution due to plastic bag overuse and manual operations. This paper introduces an Internet of Things-based intelligent weighing and checkout system, utilizing artificial intelligence visual recognition and QR code technologies [15] to promote sustainability and efficiency in supermarket operations. The proposed system includes reusable QR code-identified bags to reduce plastic waste and artificial intelligence-driven automation for product identification and weighing. With modular design and wireless communication, the system ensures scalability and stability. Each module, including the artificial intelligence visual recognition and the QR code scanning modules, communicates via The Internet of Things protocols, while the server manages the data flow and checkout process. Cost-effective and highly efficient, this system is designed to be widely applicable across retail environments, reducing operational costs while improving customer experiences. Extensive tests have demonstrated its accuracy and reliability under real-world conditions, showcasing significant improvements over traditional methods. This solution aligns with global efforts to reduce environmental impacts, offering a novel approach to sustainable retail operations.
