It reviews historical trends and the pivotal role of countries such as Thailand, India, and Malaysia in establishing the region as a global hub for medical tourism, while also identifying emerging destinations and practices in wellness tourism. A case study of South Korea is presented, which illustrates how strategic policy shifts, innovative service design, and cultural influences are reshaping the landscape, including both traditional healing practices and modern cosmetic treatment. The study further examines the impact of global events, notably the COVID-19 pandemic, on domestic and international tourist behavior, emphasizing an increased demand for personalized, nature-based, and non-invasive wellness experiences.
