摘要

The tourism industry has been significantly impacted by the rising demand for health and wellness services. This demand is driven by factors such as increasing mental health challenges, growing inequality, and increasing social pressures and demands. Despite extensive research on wellness tourism, little attention has been paid to integrating local strengths, such as traditional therapies, with emerging medical science and technology for sustainable well-being development of visitors and destinations. Macao, a hub for world leisure and tourism that embodies a unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures and has government support, is well-positioned to become a model integrative wellness destination and a global resource center for health asset management. A cross-disciplinary approach can guide tourism and hospitality stakeholders, in creating, developing, communicating, and delivering mutually beneficial values sustainably. This chapter provides an overview of the key concepts and parameters of a prospective integrative wellness tourism model, using Macao as an example. By leveraging its cultural and geographical advantages, an integrative wellness approach in Macao would not only benefit the tourism industry but also promote sustainable development while preserving traditional practices and local knowledge.
