Retinal Vessel Occlusion After Diabetic Vitrectomy

Retinal vascular occlusions may rarely occur following intraocular procedures (Fischer et al., J Ophthalmol 2017:9120892, 2017). Eyes that undergo diabetic vitrectomy (DV) usually have compromised blood circulation. It is not surprising that vascular occlusion may occur after successful DV. Post-DV paracentral acute middle maculopathy has been reported (Nakashima et al., Ophthalmology 125(12):1929–36, 2018). Because of retinal structural alterations and decreased visual function in patients with PDR, the typical presentations of retinal vessel occlusion become less obvious. The clinical features of vessel occlusion following DV are discussed in this chapter.
