In the realm of modern retail, supermarkets play a vital role as a one-stop destination for purchasing essential goods, offering a wide range of products under one roof. However, this convenience is often compromised by persistent issues arising from operational errors, resulting in customer dissatisfaction and delays. The existing technology employed in supermarket checkout counters faces several challenges, including issues related to both barcode and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This paper aims to identify the noise, and errors associated with both barcode and RFID technologies in retail checkout systems through a survey-based study, with implications for enhancing the overall shopping experience and optimizing retail operations. An online survey-based study was conducted to gather customers’ views on both barcode and RFID systems. The findings indicate that customers prefer self-checkout using RFID technology over barcode technology due to its improvement in terms of time, speed, and efficiency.
