Equity and empowerment, a fundamental human right is crucial for achieving a peaceful and prosperous society. Both these terms are culture-specific and interpreted in different ways in different parts of the globe. Women comprise fifty percent of the world population and are marginalised and thus disempowered all over the world in different ways. To overcome disempowerment a systemic change is required which may include empowering women through education, economic advancement and/or autonomy over their lives. Despite efforts of the United Nations and associated organisations for nearly eight decades, many gaps in achieving an equitable society are evident. The chapter presents an auto-ethnographic account of a woman’s (the author) lived experiences. When challenged with circumstances both personal and social, how personal perception of her own identity became paramount to discover her strengths for transformative changes. The personal narrative draws on the argument that half of the society (men) have enjoyed a privileged life for a long time and set the social norms, which should be critically examined to incorporate necessary changes. It also discusses the advantages of leading women to STEM education since 80% of the future jobs are predicted to require STEM skills including critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and resilience. Empowered women in an equitable society will live with a sense of self-worth, be able to determine their own choices and influence social change for themselves and society.
