Social psychology expresses the relationship between individuals and society in the real world as a theory and tests it using laboratory experiments as one of its methods. A similar aspect between gaming and the real world is that people experience an abstract model of the real world. This study illustrates the notion using real-life examples of gaming to examine the theory of social psychology. It is discussed as ways in which game implementers can use and apply: (1) the design of systems for an individual’s evaluations of others, (2) differences in perception between players and observers of the process of group formation and conflict, (3) the transferability of rules and themes about individual cooperative behavior in groups, and (4) the relationship between gaming and reality regarding persuasive communication, and the role functions of psychological safety for players. Finally, the study examines social psychology through gaming and cites chemical reactions as metaphors.
