Pedagogical Practices for Early Childhood Education in Vietnam

Vietnamese early childhood education, from its formation in 1945 to 2022, has gone through three significant programs. Pedagogical practices in preschool education have also changed from teacher-centered to child-centered, from focusing on the content of “what to learn” to “how to learn”. This paper describes the process of shifting pedagogical methods in Vietnamese preschool education. Before 1980, an improved educational program was implemented. Although the program aimed to develop intelligence, language and form the initial personality of young children, the teaching method was still oppressive and teachers were too harsh. About providing knowledge to children. In 1990, the reform program was born, with its content, form, and methods specified in detail. Each type of lesson and specific lesson has clearly stated content knowledge and teaching methods for children. In 2009, the Preschool Education Program was issued by the Ministry of Education according to Circular No. 17/2009/TT-BGD and is applied to this day. This program has overcome the limitations of previous programs. Educational methods focus on child-centered learning. In 2022, the Ministry of Education of Vietnam has issued a decision on the Plan to implement activities to build and promulgate a new preschool education program based on a capacity approach. After more than 70 years of development, pedagogical methods in preschool education in Vietnam have changed markedly. Child-centered pedagogical methods are gradually replacing teacher-centered methods. ECE Vietnam is aiming to build an education that develops children's abilities, with connections to the general education program in 2018.
