Kouture: A Comprehensive Dataset for Women’s Kurtas

The fashion industry and its dynamics are ever-growing. For garments as diverse as Indian ethnic wear, one requires great expertise for catering to all of its attributes and intricacies, which calls for technological aid in this field. Each attribute of a kurta has a multitude of possible values which are difficult to keep track of. Despite the necessity to address this rising need, there is a lack of publicly available datasets specifically tailored for women’s kurtas, since most of the available datasets focus on western clothing such as trousers, T-shirts, etc. This inhibits the development of novel kurta designs through generative AI models or other methodologies in this niche market. In this paper, we introduce Kouture, a comprehensive dataset of Women’s kurtas with annotations for kurta, sleeves, neckline, hemline, as well as other details such as the description, price, color, and fabric that describe the kurta. Our dataset contains 20,000 high-quality images sourced from various web platforms and filtered to ensure relevant and quality images. Kouture aims to advance the field of AI in fashion by providing researchers and developers with a useful resource in the form of a dataset for building various models and solutions in the realm of women’s kurtas such as design generation, customization, and identification.
