Review on Voltammetry

Voltammetry is a versatile and powerful analytical method employed for a variety of purposes, including studying redox processes, determining analyte concentrations, and understanding the kinetics of electrochemical events. This technique involves applying a controlled voltage to an electrochemical cell and measuring the resulting current, providing precise insights into the electrochemical behavior of the substances under investigation. Advances in the mid-twentieth century improved instrumentation, enabling precise control over applied potentials and accurate current measurements, which led to the creation of various voltammetric techniques. The introduction of solid electrodes like platinum, gold, and carbon expanded the technique’s capabilities, allowing for the exploration of a wider range of electrochemical reactions. The integration of computers and digital electronics in the latter half of the twentieth century further revolutionized voltammetry by enhancing data acquisition and analysis. Today, voltammetry is extensively used in disciplines such as chemistry, biology, environmental science, and materials science for studying redox processes, characterizing materials, and developing sensors. Recent innovations include the use of microelectrodes and nanoelectrodes, providing higher resolution and sensitivity for studying electrochemical processes at smaller scales.
