Wellness Ecotourism as a New Development of the Post-COVID-19 Era

The COVID-19 pandemic has concluded, and the Indonesian population is now transitioning into a new phase characterized by a pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a shift in societal habits, particularly concerning travel. People now prioritize cleanliness, health, safety, and environmental concerns when making travel plans. Wellness tourism is a tourism concept that reflects these interests. Wellness is achieved through a holistic activity that must be consistently maintained, even after a journey. An educational approach is used to promote the willingness of tourists to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle. Education is a vital principle in the notion of ecotourism. It bridges the understanding between wellness tourism and ecotourism in the context of a new concept known as wellness ecotourism. This research used a literature review methodology, utilizing secondary data sources such as statistics and written scientific publications. Wellness ecotourism should be practiced in ecotourism-specific open natural areas while also incorporating the cultural values of the local community. Indonesia’s diverse natural ecosystems, ranging from mountain to underwater ecosystems, are enhanced by the presence of 1340 ethnic groups, showcasing the country’s cultural richness. This combination provides ample opportunities for the development of wellness ecotourism in Indonesia.
