As a world-class tourism destination, the Borobudur area requires the development of a transportation system that can facilitate the movement of tourists. In today’s conditions, the transportation system model in the Borobudur area is only fixated on conventional ten-year planning that considers general conditions. Whereas in an area whose development orientation is tourism, the transportation system model needs to consider the tourist travel pattern that moves dynamically, is trend-based, and sustainably meets the tourist preferences. Qualitatively, this study seeks alternative transportation system models that support tourist travel patterns in an agile and adaptive manner. Borobudur was chosen by considering its super-priority destination status, many tourist visits, diverse accessibility conditions, and trend dominated by independent travelers. These conditions are appropriate for pilots to find diverse precision transportation system models. This research involves an in-depth interview with stakeholders related to tourism and transportation in the regions. No previous research has brought the concept of a free independent travel transportation system in Indonesia through a travel pattern approach. Finally, considering the existing conventional transportation system model, this study recommends the new integrated model that supports Borobudur as a super-priority tourism destination, considering independent travel patterns.
