External Senses and Their Relationship to Monotropism

One’s external senses aid us in knowing where we are in time and space as well as where others might be. They inform us about being touched, or touching something, they allow us to notice and see, hear, taste, and smell. This information is uploaded to our brain and in turn our brain informs us of what, if anything, we need to do about it. For example, if we see food, our brain may tell us we need to eat. Our mouths may start to ‘water’ which helps motivate our digestive juices and the desire to eat. This in turn is aided by senses of hunger, smell, and taste. If we are not hungry, the sight of food may cause us to want to move away and not have our senses accosted by food smells.
