Forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. This review highlights the agronomic traits, genetic improvements, and biochemical composition of forage sorghum that make it a suitable candidate for bioenergy applications. The genetic diversity within forage sorghum germplasm offers opportunities for further enhancing biomass traits through breeding programs. Its high cellulose and hemicellulose content, along with low lignin content, make forage sorghum a favorable feedstock for biofuel conversion processes. Furthermore, forage sorghum can be cultivated on less fertile land, reducing conflict with cereals and pulses production and contributing to sustainable agricultural practices. Overall, forage sorghum shows great potential as a feedstock for bioenergy production, providing a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels.
