In recent years, the demand for electrical energy has grown significantly due to the rapid expansion of the global population and economy, which has driven the development of power systems toward larger scale and more complexity. However, the expansions of power systems have raised new challenges in energy supply and placed increasing demands on the monitoring and maintenance of power systems. Take the accident that occurred in Brazil on March 21, 2018, for example [1]; a calibration error in the converter station circuit breaker triggered a chain reaction, resulting in a major blackout for a quarter of the population and a huge negative impact on the Brazilian economy. This accident highlights the challenges faced in operating and maintaining power systems, especially in such complex and large networks.
