Nanotechnology has rejuvenated material science and led to the evolution of a new material having multifunctionalities which change the face of the textile industry. The nanomaterials find application in the field of textiles in the form of nanofibers, nanofiller, nanocoatings, nanofinishing, and nanocomposites. These nanomaterials have immense potential to revolutionize the textile industry with multifunctionalities such as self-cleaning fabrics, conducting and antimicrobial fabrics, tailored hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity, flame retardancy, UV radiation protective clothing, abrasive fabrics, etc. without affecting the bulk properties of fibers and fabrics. Textile-based nanoproducts starting from nanocomposite fibers to intelligent high-performance polymeric nanocoatings are getting their way not only in high-performance advanced applications, but nanoparticles are also successfully being used in conventional textiles to impart new functionality and improved performance. The textile materials loaded with nanofillers finds application in the medical, automotive, geotech, hometech, packtech, sportech, indutech, and protective clothing sector. Thus, in this chapter, we demonstrate that nanotechnology has the potential to revolutionize technical textiles for the benefit of mankind.

摘要
