Economic damage due to surface ozone-induced crop losses affects the Indian economy and food security. Relative Yield Losses (RYL) for wheat and rice crop have been calculated using ozone exposure indices AOT 40 and M7 which is based on observational data of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh for the period 2017–2020. RYL based on AOT40 indices have been estimated as 6–9% for rice and 1–12% for wheat while RYL have been estimated as 0.7–3% for rice and 1–6% for wheat using M7 indices. Economic damage due to surface ozone for rice production is more than wheat production in comparison with the results from other studies which may be due to increasing crop prices and more production area. Urgent requirement for surface ozone monitoring in agricultural areas is needed to avoid food security problems in India.
