Assessing and managing air quality can be made easier for policymakers by examining changes in PM concentrations over time. Fractal characterization of PM2.5 and PM10 of Thiruvananthapuram City in Kerala is performed using concentration at various locations using multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA). The cross-correlation of PM concentration in a multifractal standpoint is proposed in this study for the first time. It was observed that PM2.5 is more multifractal and complex than PM10. Knowledge about time series behavior can be used to make prediction models for PMs. The correlation patterns are found to be different for PM with different variables. Declining trend and negative correlation across the scales are noted for PM-relative humidity and PM-temperature relationships. PM-solar radiation relationship showed an increasing pattern and positive correlations across time scales. All the time series displayed multifractality on considering pair-wise analysis using MFCCA, but there is a reduction of multifractality over individual cases, during PM-meteorological variable paired analysis.

摘要
