This chapter discusses the application of an evaluative framework for understanding the use of AR/VR as a supplement to a library program promoting youth and family participation in outdoor learning called the Backyard Explorers (BYE) program. A design-based research (DBR) approach was utilized in designing an immersive learning space called Virtual Citizen Science Expo (VCSE) that contains BYE rooms.
