This chapter describes the history of the development of psychology practice in Japan and characteristics ofprofessional ethics issues. Since the late 1980s, the number of psychologists has rapidly increased in this country.They have been engaged in psychology practice in diverse institutions, including hospitals, schools and companies.Psychologists are expected to be sensitive to ethical issues such as confidentiality, handling of information, clientrelationships, and competence. Notably, during this period, many academic and professional associations haveestablished codes of ethics and improved their member’s ethical awareness. Still, further development is requiredin the system of ethics education.
