This chapter discusses the reality, significance, and challenges of Tokkatsu (tokubetsu katsudō, an area collecting nonsubject activities in curriculum) that have developed originally in Japan from an international perspective. First, a short history of Tokkatsu, consisting of class activities, student council activities, school events and club activities, is presented to illustrate how it differ from extracurricular activities in other countries. Second, the characteristics of Tokkatsu from the perspective of foreign researchers is examined. Third, the export of Tokkatsu as a Japanese-style educational model, especially the introduction in Egypt, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Malaysia is explained. Fourth, as a future perspective, the relationship between Tokkatsu and lesson study is focus on and the internationalizing both as a set is proposed.
