IDAIP: Identity Authentication for Intellectual Property Right Using Hyperledger Fabric

In today’s digital landscape, protecting and authenticating Intellectual Property (IP) has become crucial due to the ease of replication and distribution of information. Traditional methods of IP authentication face challenges such as fraud, counterfeiting, and unauthorized use. Blockchain technology has become a promising response to these problems. This research explores the application of Hyperledger Fabric, a prominent blockchain framework known for its enterprise-grade features and modular architecture, in identity authentication for IP. A system has been proposed which utilizes Hyperledger Fabric’s permissioned blockchain network to establish a secure and transparent environment for IP authentication. Smart contracts are employed to define rules and conditions for verifying and managing IP ownership. Participants, including IP owners, licensing agencies, and regulatory bodies, are assigned cryptographically secured digital identities, enabling secure interactions and transactions while maintaining privacy and confidentiality. The identity authentication process involves registering IP assets on the blockchain, recording relevant meta data and ownership details. Immutable transactions provide an auditable history of IP ownership and transactions, ensuring transparency and accountability. A consensus mechanism prevents fraudulent activities and unauthorized modifications to IP records. Integration of Hyperledger Fabric with existing IP systems, such as patent databases and copyright registries, enhances interoperability and facilitates seamless information sharing. Security analysis displays that proposed technique is better than baselines. Performance of the proposed technique has also been analyzed with respect to time cost and throughput for identity authentication.
