The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: The Opportunity for Tropical Inland Waters
摘要
The United Nations General Assembly declared the years 2021 through 2030 as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration with the aim to galvanize action across all ecosystem types including tropical inland waters. This reflects the growing global understanding of the importance of these ecosystems as hosts of remarkably high biodiversity and important sources of nutrition and livelihoods. However high rates of global wetlands loss have had far-reaching impacts for food security, climate resilience and sustainable development. Halting and reversing ecosystem degradation through restoration can improve ecosystem health, recover biodiversity and regain valuable ecosystem services.
