Alzheimer’s disease (AD) represents a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a progression from normal cognition (NC) to subjective cognitive decline (SCD), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and ultimately to AD dementia. As this progression is typically irreversible, early detection and intervention are imperative. This study investigates the diagnostic sensitivity of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in identifying SCD and MCI stages in AD. The study conducts a comprehensive analysis of functional connectivity and characteristics of oxygenated hemoglobin (HBO) during resting state in two distinct patient groups to identify potential biomarkers. The 33 participants were divided into two groups: SCD and MCI. Functional connectivity strength during the resting state were measured using fNIRS. The results showed that compared to individuals with MCI, patients with SCD exhibited higher average FC levels between different channels in the frontal lobe during resting state, with two channels’ FC demonstrating significant ability to distinguish between SCD and MCI.
