Not Just Growth but Green Growth—A Tale of Bamboo
摘要
Now China has made a commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, green growth becomes imperative. Set in the mountainous village in the east coast of Zhejiang Province in China, this story shows how villagers learnt a hard lesson of ecological disasters caused by deforestation for quick money. To reverse the fortune, they had to change “their lifestyles”, figure out “their comparative advantages”, and adapt to “new business models.” Facilitated by “social capital” and through “learning-by-doing,” they eventually embarked on a path of green growth with NbS (nature-based solution) that fits their geographical location. This “tale of bamboo” provides a glimpse into the country’s mitigation and adaptation efforts at the grassroot level.
