Vestibular migraine is the most common disorder among pediatric patients presenting for the evaluation of dizziness. Migraine variants affect patients throughout the lifespan. Younger patients present with variants including benign paroxysmal torticollis of infancy and recurrent vertigo of childhood, which may predate development of vestibular migraine. Vestibular migraine often co-occurs with other non-migraine diagnoses as well. Studies in children with dizziness report more than one diagnosis in a substantial proportion of patients (44% of children in one large study). Comorbid conditions impact the treatment and recovery of patients with vestibular migraine and must be recognized and managed concurrently. Overlapping symptoms make diagnosis of multiple concurrent etiologies challenging. This chapter provides an overview of pediatric migraine variants as well as related conditions that occur in pediatric patients with migraine.
