An Overview on the Potential Application of Eco-Friendly Agro-Waste Based Geopolymer as Structural Grouting in Assembled Precast Concrete Structures

In precast concrete structures, ordinary Portland cement is generally used in structural grouting mix. Unfortunately, the cement industry generated substantial anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. It is an environmental threat as it contributes to global carbon emissions. Moreover, another ecological issue comes from abundant solid material disposal in the agricultural industry. These problems can be solved by utilizing agricultural waste as supplementary cementitious materials. This study aimed to explore agro-industrial by-products that were utilized in cement-based materials and feasible future applications of these materials in structural grouting. An overview of an environmentally friendly geopolymer and its main components was conducted to describe diverse applications and advantages of using geopolymer. Several structure connection details and the adjacent type of grouting have also been discussed. The possible application of agricultural waste ash as a structural geopolymer grouting is recommended to be explored extensively. Secondly, it is also suggested the investigation of agricultural waste ash is used both as the precursor and the activator in geopolymer grouting. The possibility of geopolymer grouting application in the precast industry led to fast, efficient, economical green construction.
