A Review of Trends and Technologies Advancing Concrete with Biochar
摘要
Biochar, a highly porous and charcoal-like solid produced from the thermochemical conversion of biomass, enhances the performance of cementitious systems in biochar-cement composites. This study utilizes a bibliometric-based review to discuss current research topics within the field of biochar-cement composites extensively. VOSviewer was employed for bibliometric mapping to analyze research trends over time and by country based on 399 documents retrieved from the Web of Science database. A notable surge in publications since 2018 highlights the increasing demand for materials that reduce the carbon footprint and promote sustainability in construction. This comprehensive review delves into the sourcing of biomass for biochar production and explores biochar's role in modifying concrete behavior. Additionally, the properties of biochar-cement composites, including fresh, mechanical, and thermal properties, are thoroughly discussed through an analysis of prior research findings. Overall, this study highlights the potential of utilizing biochar in cement and concrete composites to facilitate carbon sequestration and improve sustainability within the construction industry.
