In South Asia, males dominate the migration, leaving females as the primary breadwinners. This results in women taking on the responsibility of family care, agriculture, and household management, which empowers them in various ways. This study, conducted using a comprehensive desk review method, gathered relevant literature from electronic and physical libraries, focusing on scientific journals' peer-reviewed articles. The study examined women’s personnel, economic, social, and political empowerment due to male labor migration. The findings reveal that male migration has increased women’s participation in financial activities, access to savings and credit, improved gender-friendly tools and technologies, better bargaining power and autonomy, social engagement, and reputation. On the other hand, some studies showed that male migration has increased the financial burden for women, abandonment of farming activities, and social stigmas such as psychological problems, family destruction, and detachment. This study strongly suggests that researchers must conduct further investigations into social and political empowerment, which society usually overlooks but holds more value in achieving sustainable development.
