Indigenous Knowledge of Afro-Asian Tribal Communities: An Alternative Science of Natural Disaster Management

Indigenous knowledge of indigenous communities is critical to protecting the Earth. The climate is changing massively due to modernity rather than human intervention, needs, wants, and desires. The flow of modern culture has penetrated almost every planner’s mind in recent times. So, sustainable management has become important in contemporary natural disaster management. Tribes have their own indigenous knowledge to predict climate change and natural disasters. They can feel the breath of nature and the sensation of biodiversity. The practical and local oral skills of tribal people can be used to cope with natural disasters, and tribes are close to nature. The time has come when we need to rethink our survival plans, policies, and management to protect the earth in a sustainable way with the application of tribal knowledge. ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ demands the ‘rhetoric-to-action’ and contemporary environmentalists are planning to combat the climate crisis, promote sustainable development, and implement disaster risk reduction measures. Both science and technology should jointly make smart disaster management possible, but modern'sci-fi ‘and ‘hi-fi’ technological policies are not seen as successful at all. Science and technology can both be “critical friends” for natural disaster management and policymaking, but sustainable resilience is always demanded by the common people. There have been many landslides, tsunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, but records show that tribes are affected or damaged very little due to their connection to nature. In fact, we have entered the realm of nature without understanding the sense of ‘Pancha Bhoot’ and have forgotten that a natural disaster is a natural phenomenon of nature. Tribes in Afro-Asian countries nourish indigenous knowledge to save them from the devastation of natural disasters. This research highlights the indigenous knowledge of tribal communities in Afro-Asian countries to inform the people of the changes in climate, rivers, oceans, soil, ethology, ornithology, and nephology to cope with the level of destruction due to natural disasters.
