摘要
Indonesia has a good potential for marine resources. Ambon, the capital city of Maluku province, is a part of the area targeted to become the National Fish Barn. This position requires both skilled human resources in mastering knowledge and skills in the fishery sector. This article aims to describe the existing condition of the fishery sector workforce in the city of Ambon. First, this article describes the demographic characteristics of the fishing workforce. Second, the existing condition of vocational training in the fishery sector. Third, analysis of needs and training schemes for workers in the fishery sector. This research uses a mix method approach. Field data collection was carried out using a survey method using a questionnaire to 200 respondents in the Ambon City area who work in the fishery sector. Qualitative data collection was also carried out using in-depth interviews to explore in-depth information related to interesting issues obtained from the survey results. The research findings illustrate that the majority of workers in the fishery sector are male, more than half are in the 35–44 and 45–54 years age groups, and most of them are fishermen. The majority of fishery workforce education is high school education. Most respondents have not had the opportunity to attend training due to lack of information and time constraints. Proposals for training needs for fishery sector workers include: use of modern fishing gear, ship engine repair, business management, and marketing, and catch processing.
