One of the government’s efforts to achieve food security in Indonesia in 2020–2024 is through the Food Estate (FE) Program in Central Kalimantan. Therefore in 2020, a baseline survey focused on rice farming areas. In 2021, a survey also covered plantation areas considering that plantation is a strategist commodity to reach the farmers’ welfare. Research on the existing condition of plantation areas in FE has been carried out in Kahayan Kuala Sub-District of Pulang Pisau District and Kapuas Barat Sub-District of Kapuas District. Data were collected through focus group discussion with the related institutions, individuals interviewed with 40 farmers’ households, and field observation then analyzed qualitatively. Results showed: (1) The characteristics of the Household (Family members are four people, age 50 years old, education seven years); (2) The land asset is own land (rice field 1.21 Ha and plantation 0.41 Ha) and rented rice field 0.63 Ha; (3) The Income contribution from rice field asset is 24.5% while plantation land is 22%; (4) The plantation crop in the locations are coconut and rubber, with income contribution from rice/Ha is 20.08% while plantation/Ha is 50.00%. They concluded that plantations had a significant contribution. Therefore, production should be enhanced. The strategy for developing plantation commodities is to improve the quality of plantation seeds and introduce modern planting system technology. To get appropriate technology and efficient achievement of the plantation program, the technology should be based on the results of gender analysis.
