Nanomaterials Application for Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Inflammatory Disorders

Nanomaterials are gaining popularity in the treatment of common inflammatory disorders because of their distinct physical and chemical properties. Different inflammatory disorders and conditions may be diagnosed and treated with the help of a wide range of nanomaterials and tools made possible by this technology (carbon-based, metal-based, dendrimers, and nanocomposites). Nanoparticles have been the subject of extensive in-vivo and in-vitro research to demonstrate their effectiveness in treating inflammation and its related diseases. Boost in the release and production of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-8, IL-6, and IL-10) and deterioration of bone and articular cartilage are characteristics of inflammatory disorders which are linked with the beginnings of cardiovascular diseases like stroke and heart attack. Despite numerous imaging devices for diagnosis and monitoring and ongoing studies to increase their accuracy and sensitivity, proper assessment of inflammatory disorders, especially in their early stages, remains difficult. Nanoparticles made a significant impact because they could be customized to overcome metabolic barriers and directed to their required target without damaging surrounding cells and tissue. These can be used to reduce the severity of drugs, systemic side effects, and toxicity by targeting specific tissues. Thus, the aim of this chapter is to give a quick update on nanomaterials as a possible therapy method for inflammatory disorders. Also briefly explored are the potential uses of nanomaterials in the treatment of inflammatory disorders.
