Adaptive Frequency Support Strategy of Wind Turbine Considering Frequency Variation Characteristics

Considering the varying operating conditions of wind turbines (WTs) under different wind speeds and the varying system power support requirements under different disturbances, the potential of WTs could not be utilized. To address this, an adaptive rapid frequency support strategy for wind farms that takes into account grid frequency characteristics is proposed. Wind turbine calculates grid frequency through its respective phase-locked loop while the fast frequency support control parameters are dynamically adjusted so as to deliver high-quality fast frequency support services. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive frequency support strategy (AFSS), the IEEE 2-area-four machine model is employed. Simulations illustrate that the proposed AFSS could improve the frequency dynamics during a disturbance.
