Coastal protection is an urgent issue related to the impact of climate change and prolonged human activity, especially around beaches. Beaches around the world face serious threats such as erosion, seawater intrusion, flooding and damage to coastal ecosystems. Solutions for coastal protection must be determined so that they are effective in protecting as well as ecologically, socially and economically acceptable. This ensures that human activities such as beach development, recreation and fishing remain sustainable as long as do not cause a decline in coastal quality. Technically, conventional solutions such as embankments, concrete structures and drainage canals have been used to protect beaches. However, these solutions often do not provide optimal results in the long term. They may accelerate coastal erosion in other locations, destroy coastal ecosystems, and cannot adapt to the environment. Other nature-based solutions for coastal protection have attracted attention as allegedly more sustainable alternatives. This approach includes the use of coastal vegetation, the formation of natural structures such as mangrove forests, coral reefs, and trying to create natural sand beaches. Nature-based solutions can provide long-term protective benefits, reduce negative impacts on the environment, and promote coastal sustainability. Although nature-based solutions are promising, research to understand their potential, limitations, and effectiveness, is in different contexts. This research aims to contribute to the development of sustainable coastal protection strategies. This research is useful for finding new insights, recommendations and understanding that can be used in coastal protection that is accepted by the community. The perception of beach users towards beach protection indirectly influences acceptance, participation and adoption of these solutions.
