Introduced by the United Nations in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a universal framework for global environmental challenges and sustainable development. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) plays a vital role in evaluating project impacts. Yet, a major challenge is the absence of standardized methods for integrating Environmental SDGs into EIA. This gap hampers practitioners’ ability to align assessments with sustainability goals, leading to inconsistent consideration of environmental objectives. Therefore, the statement of the problem revolves around the need to develop robust frameworks and tools for systematically integrating Environmental SDGs into EIA practice, ensuring that environmental sustainability objectives are effectively addressed in project decision-making processes. This study aims to integrate environmental SDGs into the EIA process flow, emphasizing the need to bridge the gap between EIA and SDGs. Further, the study provides the understandings of the practical implications of incorporating environmental SDGs in the EIA process by reviewing readily available case studies and best practices. The research relies predominantly on qualitative data collection, covering internal, external, and online desk research. The study has developed a framework to seamlessly incorporate environmental SDG considerations through SDGs Compass to standard EIA process. This method includes the selection of relevant SDGs, the inclusion of stakeholder perspectives, and the evaluation of potential positive and negative impacts on SDG targets. Furthermore, the study highlights the potential benefits of this integration, including improved decision-making, reduced conflicts between development projects and environmental objectives, and the advancement of sustainable development on a broader scale. As the world challenges involved environmental challenges, this study recommends that environmental professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders advocate for the integration of environmental SDGs into the EIA process as a potent means of fostering more sustainable and responsible development practices.
