The occurrence of an earthquake inflicts significant damage on society, necessitating comprehensive management aligned with the specific context of the country. This chapter delves into the Wenchuan Earthquake that occurred in Sichuan, China, presenting a content analysis of how both the Chinese government and civil society contributed to the reconstruction of the disaster-stricken area. The analysis encompasses the roles played by Chinese authorities and their operations, the command dynamics involving the military in during-and post-earthquake search-and-rescue efforts, foreign contributions in terms of rescue efforts and donations, as well as the role of the local populace. Key findings underscore the crucial role played by foreign entities in the rescue operations, and the global media’s positive recognition of China’s transparency during the earthquake. However, challenges such as the unequal distribution of resources and misappropriation of donations surfaced in the government’s relief efforts, highlighting the need for the central government to address issues related to resource mobilization efficiency, transparency in fund distribution, and allegations of corruption among officials to uphold its credibility.
