Green and Continuous Production of Reducing Sugar Form Inulin Over Solid Acids in Micropacked Bed Reactors

Biomass resources are important renewable energy, and their rational utilization can help to cope with the demand for global energy and reduce the production of greenhouse gases. Inulin is a widely sourced biomass resource. As a raw material it can be used to produce reducing sugar, which in turn can be used to produce biofuels. In this study, μPBRs as reactor and HND series as catalyst to achieve continuous conversion of inulin to reducing sugar. In addition, by optimizing the reaction process, using HND-586 as a catalyst, reducing sugar yield of 87% was obtained at a reaction temperature of 95 ℃ and the liquid flow rate of 0.1 mL/min (reaction time of 7.26 min). And the stability of HND-586 in μPBRs is tested, and no catalyst deactivation is shown in continuous use for 12 h. The μPBRs realize the conversion of inulin to reducing sugar in an efficient, green, continuous and safe manner. It provides a theoretical basis for the industrialization of the conversion of inulin to reducing sugar.
