Enhancing Biogas Production from Municipal Solid Waste: The Role of Garbage Enzyme and Tea Powder Waste
摘要
The study explores investigates the enhancement of biogas yield through the optimized co-digestion of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and tea powder waste (TPW) with garbage enzymes. The garbage enzyme used in the study was prepared through the fermentation of pineapple and lemon peels with jaggery and water in a 3:1:10 ratio. A total of six batches of experiments were carried out, including two monodigestion trials and four codigestion trials. Codigestion involved one trial without garbage enzyme and three with 10% garbage enzyme, conducted under anaerobic conditions at mesophilic temperatures (35 ± 2 °C). In order to optimize the codigestion with garbage enzyme, three different pH concentrations (5, 6.5, and 8) were tested. The results showed that the maximum gas production was 771.85 ml/g of VS for codigestion with a 10% garbage enzyme concentration at pH 8. An overall increase of 17.16% in biogas production and 40.81% in methane production was observed when using a 10% garbage enzyme concentration during the codigestion of OFMSW and TPW at pH 8 compared to without garbage enzyme. Due to the highly acidic nature of the garbage enzyme, the codigestion process was inhibited at pH 5 and 6.5. This study presents a technically viable method for converting OFMSW, TPW, and fruit waste into energy within the framework of a circular economy.
